England + America = Love?

Kayla Marie Saw

So as I mentioned in my last post, I’m getting married! I seriously could not be more excited. Joe is such a wonderful guy and I feel so blessed to have met him. For those who don’t already know it, I thought I’d share a little bit of our story.

I had the opportunity to study abroad January through April of 2014. I was studying at the ACM in Guildford – a sister school to the one here in Oklahoma that I attended. Joe was in a couple of my classes but we didn’t really meet until a couple weeks into the semester. We were at a party, I thought he was cute, and I thought, “Hey. I’m gonna talk to him. What’s the worst that could happen?” Turns out the worst that could happen is I’m still stuck talking to him a year and a half later… KIDDING. But we got along really well and talked all night and then just couldn’t seem to stop talking after.

At first we said it would be stupid to date since I would be coming back to America; but at some point we realized that we were basically dating and were like, falling in love or something cheesy like that. We both kept saying we didn’t want a long distance relationship so obviously we would have to break up when I went back home. Except when it was time for me to go home we just couldn’t really bring ourselves to break up. So we didn’t.

So there I was, in love with this guy who lived on the other side of the world (and my mom was “mad” because she told me not to fall in love with a British guy). Joe and I decided to take it one day at a time – texting and Skyping and then eventually visiting and we realized that we kinda wanted to keep this up forever. Even though marrying someone from another country is NOT the easiest process in the world. Then in July we were on vacation in California and he took me to the beach and said a lot of nice things (after we spent about 7 minutes trying to open a bottle of our favorite wine) and then asked if I would do him the honor of being his wife.

Ummmmm yes.

So now on April 3 I get to marry the cutest, sweetest, smartest, funniest, most wonderful guy there is. Who just so happens to have an amazing accent and live in London. You could say I’m a happy girl.
